The Russians were able to reliably lay mines and move troops with urgency.
I suspect about an extra thousand Ukrainian soldiers are dead because of a lack of offensive security.

Why have we not provided cluster bombs and thermobaric fuel-air explosive devices in great numbers to the Ukes? Ore the massive none-nuclear bombs we dropped on the cave complexes near the Afghan Pakistan border when chasing Bin Laden? These aren’t nuclear and if the Ukes could deliver them effectively I would think THOSe munitions could be game changers in this war. I wish I was not serious but what are thoughts here? Do the Ukes lack air capability to deliver these on target? Couldn’t we fix that asap if we were serious about being in it to win it with the Ukes here?
I have no thoughts at all on escalating a border war with Russia.
There have been maybe a dozen prisoner exchanges so far. So, both sides have been taking prisoners.

What can be inferred from these exchanges? That the fighting has been tough, and neither side is suffering mass surrenders. And, that Ukraine, with a lot of help from the outside, has been holding its own against Russia. Even with the current counter-offensive, gains have been modest.

“The entire platoon of Armed Forces of Ukraine along with the equipment surrendered to Russian troops in Avdiivka. The platoon commander of the 110th separate mechanized brigade of Ukraine, told the Russians that they surrendered voluntarily to the rescue of the many wounded. Russian military agreed and Ukrainian units arrived armed with two BMP-1 vehicles.”
