Gone without a trace: 10 hikers who mysteriously vanished from US National Parks

People have been disappearing inside US National Parks at an alarming rate, with at least 10 vanishing never to be seen again since 2016, data examined by The Post shows.
One was a hiker whose last message was to his son, telling him he was on his way to Yosemite National Park.
Another got separated from his group during a nine-day excursion through the stifling Grand Canyon heat.
A young river tour guide, with his whole life ahead of him, also vanished during a group trip.
“No trace of man missing on Colorado River in Grand Canyon,” reads a local news headline from the time.

I’ve been on 10 and 11-day solo hikes, or even just a few days, anything can happen and leave you undiscovered, after all, it is the wilderness, especially when no one knows you have gone backpacking at all.

Lost, injured, heart attack, stroke, fall, any number of things. You go out alone and any number of small things that would be only a minor incident can kill you.
Family now insists I take a PLB when I go on one of my rambles.
If I do not check in they will come looking.

My guess is that most are accidental deaths due to exposure, etc. While some others are planned suicides.

My guess is the three leading factors in these disappearances are suicides, heart attacks while out solo, and drowning either while out solo or in a place that is not a lake..
Being lost can compound these things.

Coast to Coast AM with George Noory every few months has this guy on that discusses these disappearances in National Parks. The cases he describes is wild. One was a couple and their kid were hiking in the trails. They stopped and turned around and the kid had vanished without a trace. Of course they float the UFO angle. Art Bell prior to Noory used to discuss the same thing.
