Doomers. So tired of them.
One purported conservative - the only one in my neighborhood, so therefore the person I talk with the most - sings a constant song of “nothing will change” and “nothing will every get better” and if I say justice is coming the answer is “I’ll believe it when I see it”.
I’m trying to decide on my next approach. Years of red-pill attempts are clearly not working. This person is seriously invested in doom. I’m thinking about saying (untruthfully) “yes, you’re right. I give up” just to see if reverses psychology works.
The other approach I’m thinking of is to say “When we win and the history of this era is written, you will be included in the opposition. You will go down as one of the people who did their best to demoralize the winners and sabotage the victory.”
Whaddaya think?

I vote for this one. OR.. I would ask, “Do you always see the glass as half empty?” With people like that, they get the glass of water question and a look.. I don’t know how to describe it. It’s this look of me being incredulous.. like “are you seriously that negative??
Are you talking to my dad?? 😂😂😂
Seriously, not seriously are you talking to my dad, but my dad is so negative. Always has been. My sisters and I have been talking about how negative he always has been. Not only is the glass half empty, but it’s nearly gone and there probably isn’t any more water anyway, in his mind. Thankfully, I have a good sense of humor.
My oldest son is that way.. he’s just like my dad. And I’ll say..”T, half full, love, half full and there’s more water anyway.”
I guess what I’m saying is, I probably wouldn’t engage the doomer anymore, because my smartmouth-o-meter would be very active lol.

I think untruthfully telling them to give up may well bring them great relief; the reason some keep saying 'Doom' is to allay their fear of having to do anything, having to continue hoping, having to be a source of encouragement to others. Some have had their hopes dashed again and again and feel as if it hurts or is too hard to try hope again. Saying, "Yes, we're doomed" would almost give them a vacation ("I no longer have to try, I no longer have to care...) which may give others a desire for an 'I quit' vacation.
I recall someone yelling 'we're doomed!' on the forum and Bagster said, "I hear you saying they broke you. Rub some dirt in it and get back in the game...."
While that's not my style, I get his point. Those who collapse need various approaches: hope, encouragement or a push to get back on their feet.
Maybe telling them examples of positive things happening could help. Have a few things in mind to share if you meet doomers?
I think you live in my neighborhood and were speaking to my husband.
You invested years into trying to red-pill your neighbour. It sounds like he meets Yuri Bezmenov’s definition of “demoralized”. Yuri states that “people who have been gradually demoralized are unable to understand that this has happened to them. Exposure to true information does not matter any more,” said Bezmenov. “A person who [is] demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell nothing to him. Even if I shower him with information, with authentic proof, with documents, with pictures; even if I take him by force to the Soviet Union and show him [a] concentration camp, he will refuse to believe it, until he [receives] a kick in his fan-bottom. When a military boot crashes his balls then he will understand. But not before that. That’s the [tragedy] of the situation of demoralization.”
Yuri continues “They are contaminated; they are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli in a certain pattern. You cannot change their mind, even if you expose them to authentic information, even if you prove that white is white and black is black, you still cannot change the basic perception and the logic of their behavior. In other words, in these people… the process of demoralization is complete and irreversible.”
Maybe you could give him a copy of Yuri’s essay on demoralization and then disconnect before your neighbour demoralizes you.
”Yes, you’re right. By all means let’s give up.
People like you existed during the time of our Founding Fathers and they faced far worst then what you face now. I Thank god they didn’t listen to those loyalists, and Iike the Founding Fathers, I don’t think I’ll follow your advice either.’
I might say, “Wow, it sounds as though you WANT the country to go to hell. Which side are you on?”
Not sure I’d really say that, though. My oldest friend who lives a few hundred miles away but we email and talk on the phone is convinced that nothing good will happen, Trump won’t be back, etc. I tried to tell her about Q a few years ago but she believed media hype and couldn’t listen.
She knows fake news is fake and is a strong conservative but...she watches fake news “to see what they say”. In my view just opening ones eyes and ears to lying propaganda infects the mind. I know the crap they’re spewing without exposing myself to it in depth. But I think people just get infected by watching/reading lies even if they “know” it’s lies, it influences them.
