About 1.5 decades ago my wife retired, and I was retired.
After many discussions between us and some relatives and friends, we decided that we would like to stay in our home with good neighbors and be carried out feet first.
One of our sons is a construction project manager, and he and our contractor planned and made a lot of good suggestions.
They both agreed on having 2 heating and ac combos. One unit for where we live and one unit on the larger part of the house, often without anyone there.
They suggested a standard wall thermostat for the area we didn’t use except, when we have guests. Then, set it for 60 degrees, when we didn’t use it.
They both suggested a Nest unit in the area, we use the most, and to use it to keep comfortable.
There were big disagreements on having Nest Door watching units scanning outside the front, side and back doors due to what is discussed in this article. We went with other outer perimeter protection.
There is no way, we would allow any company to remote control our homes’ alarm/protection.
How to have a smart home without it spying on you
Some smart entrepreneur will eventually commercialize it. There's certainly a lucrative market of people who prefer conveniences that aren't tied to invasions of their privacy.
Why would the guy put that same tech back in his house after that? No sympathy from me.

Cute! However, if you use a “smart phone” either Android or Apple; if you are using a computer that has a microphone or camera... If you get deliveries from Amazon or any other “woke” company... You are in exactly the same boat!!! This type of intrusion into your life is almost everywhere and is surveying almost everyone.
This was an unsubstantiated and false complaint from one of Amazon's delivery drivers. Amazon's own equipment proved it was false. This guy should sue Amazon to drag their woke butts through the mud.
This is exactly why I refuse to have any smart crap in my home. Besides that, who knows who is listening.
Why was he on that bullshit to start with? He don’t have the intelligence to turn his lights on and off? He is too stupid to turn his stove off and on?
