Those standalone retro bathtubs are all the rage but I don’t know why. A friend of ours just built a 1920’s style home (new construction but with 100 year old design choices) and the master suite has one of those. I tried to be polite but I did have to say I am not a fan of those bath tubs. Where do you put the soap and shampoo and wash cloths? Where does the splash water go? Doesn’t make sense to me. This isn’t the 1880s we have better tub designs now that we have indoor plumbing.

Anyway, they are “all the rage” and it was a retro look so I guess the interior designer thought it worked. Me, I say a bathtub needs a built-in counter and recessed slot for shampoo and soap etc.

Plus try climbing in and out of one of those when you are in your 60s, 70s or 80s. We built our last house with a big walk-in shower with a bench, grab bars and a wheelchair accessible doorway. We don't need them yet, but we don't plan on ever moving again.
