They flew billions of light years to get here... past asteroids, black holes, and other dangers, only to crash on a environmentally stable planet? Yeah, unless we have shot them down, I always find this amusing.

No one has claimed that, except for a handful of long-dead sci-fi authors and people unfamiliar with the subject.

Theories like that make it sound like they came just yesterday, when they may well, from the wealth of evidence, have always been here.

Whatever they think the reaction was going to be, it failed. The whole thing is a joke. I haven’t seen or heard of one person that say “holy cow!, we’re not alone!”
Flew all this way with all that technology only to crash and not have the alien version of OnStar to automatically call for help?
