I remember when old school bathroom medicine cabinets mounted between two studs and the mirror opened to reveal some shelves. Like this:

https://cookandboardman.com/asi-10-8340-recessed-medicine-cabinet/?sku=ASI10-8340

They’d often have a slot in the back so you could dump your used double edged blade into the wall cavity! Ha!

I am lazy.

I use an electric shaver I bought for $25.00 on line. It works well enough if I use it everyday and I don’t have to clean out clogged drains

I have had several of these and each last about about 12 to 18 months. (But I have a shaved head so I shave a lot more than most men.)

LOVE that David Angelo owns Western Razor. He’s funny, conservative, and smart. Plus, the razors are made in the USA.

Hubby also uses Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream along with a Merkur 34C double-edge safety razor (gotta love the Germans) and Wilkinson Sword double-edge razor blades. Nivea after shave lotion is a must. He has a salt ‘n pepper beard now, so he only shaves once a week.

"Nothing beats a straight razor, though."

.

Yes.
I chose to use 'nothing' for this task many years ago.

Actually what I wrote above is not true. I don't use 'nothing', exactly.

I do use scissors to trim the beard & mustache,
and I shave my neck every morning.

Real men don’t talk about shaving like it’s some kind of manly man task.

EXACTLY

Faggots use Gillette products

Really?

When I was a kid I had a beard. It itched like hell and I looked stupid. I didn't have it long.

Also...some years ago Letterman had a Top Ten List called "Top Ten Pickup Lines of Fidel Castro". Number six was "Would you like to check my beard for ticks?"

Hilarious!

I go nuts about collecting stuff; but, collets, broaches, taps, dies, drills, end mills, saws, and other tooling can be had without repetition.

Dangus got me to thinkin, those people were pretty frugal.

Lets say my way probably costs a penny per shave. The brushy foam method was likely an effort to bring it down to 1/10th per shave or something.

gotta love the Germans

I’m trying to love Americans more than other nationalities. That doesn’t mean I dislike German or even the Chinese people. Chinese products are always the last choice for me regardless of price. If you buy Made in China you are funding the CCP. I have worked in China in the past, about 10 weeks per year for a stretch of six years. For the most part, I found the Chinese people are just fine, but they do not know freedom and there are horrid human rights abuses. We Americans fund those abuses with every product we buy from China. The CCP gets its slice of the money in each transaction.

We could end the CCP simply by not buying anything from China. They would go broke. But that’s not possible. We are too reliant on there products. I have to take a life sustaining drug that used to be made in America. It’s now only made in China. There is some major work America has to do to onshore a lot of businesses so that we are not essentially held hostage by CCP.

Want the razor blades to last even longer? After complete rinsing off of the lather and stubble-—cover the razor blade/shaving device end in isopropyl alcohol. This pulls the rest of the water off the steel and prevents corrosion. Blade will last 3 to 4 times as long and not be dulled on the cutting edge. Chemistry of corrosion. Remove all the water and keep the metal in waterless alcohol until next use.

On Amazon sellers have variety sets of blades from many manufacturers and I find it interesting to compare the different ones.
I shower shave with soap.
Dr Squatch soap is a great Christmas gift idea for Mom and the kids.
Viking handles that have the adjustable gaps are quite nice.
It's Pretty easy to nick especially when dull and you push too hard.
More than the brand it matters how dull (used) they are as to how well they work.
I usually get about 5 shaves before they are feeling dull.

Yes, the blades will last a lot longer if you dry them.

A lot longer

I just dab it with a towel then blow on it real hard sometimes using the hair dryer. If any water comes out repeat I’ve had a blade last as long as 6 months. But I don’t have a sandpaper beard

A little history on the razor blade for the heritage of the idea and the quality of the steel to make them. Very hard to find the quality of steel under renamed outfits who are then supplied from ChiComs.

Edgewell Company owns these brands of blades, skin care etc. Have found the Cremo soft tube of a pinkies worth of cream foamed on the face to work to set up the beard for razor sharp close shave- with any kind of blade.

© 2023 Edgewell Personal Care

SCHICK, WILKINSON SWORD, PERSONNA, EDGE, SKINTIMATE, BILLIE, GENTLE GLIDE, CAREFREE, STAYFREE, O.B., BANANA BOAT, HAWAIIAN TROPIC, WET ONES, JACK BLACK, FIELDTRIP, BULLDOG, CREMO and associated word marks and logos are trademarks of Edgewell Personal Care Brands, LLC or an Edgewell affiliate company in the United States and other countries. PLAYTEX is a trademark used under license.”

So these are the brands they own. Personna, Schick (parke-Davis/Warner Lambert olde) and the no longer single standing original English Wilkinson Sword (the swordmaker branched into razor blades in 1910 or so)— are the heritage makers now brand owned and supplied from elsewhere.

Original poster could be onto something with the Verona, VA blade maker that makes all kinds of cutting blades from their roller mills. Things like carpet cutting blades- youch! US made from what steel maker source of rolled flat metal stock?
