Nobody seriously doubts anymore that the world is warming, and that consequently climate everywhere is changing.
But what might not be so well known is that global warming has caused something quite remarkable to occur in the middle of the North Atlantic.
It has resulted in a huge area of cooling in the ocean to the south and east of Greenland, and off to the west of Ireland.
Since the Atlantic Ocean and what happens there is the key determinant of the weather in Ireland, there is no question that this cooling phenomenon is already having a big influence on climate change here and will continue to do so.
Many climate scientists say that the impact of this cooling patch is already protecting Ireland from the extreme summer heatwaves that have caused havoc on the continent. …

The luck of the Irish................
I do (seriously doubt). smh
And in the winter the cold blobs sister, the warm blob, keeps Ireland warm. Those two have been doing that since around 300BC.
You see, temperature is like Pac Man. When it gets too hot, it gets cold again and starts over. This is why dogs and cats don’t get along very well. Trust the science.
If there is one thing the Irish are definitely not worried about, it’s an unseasonably warm spell.
Is this a sequel? The Blob (North Atlantic)
So very much wrong with this silly article. Remember, folks, you’re hearing from a journalist - whose professional requirements are right down there with those for ‘eddikashun’.
To summarize the duckspeak:
1. The cold blob in the North Atlantic is being caused by a slowdown of the Gulf Stream.
2. The Gulf Stream moves warm water northward.
3. It is being slowed down by a decline in the salinity of the sea water.
4. The decrease in salinity is being caused by more freshwater entering the ocean due to rain and the melting of Greenland’s ice.
5. The additional freshwater makes the sea water less salty which makes it take longer to sink down when it cools.
6. This causes the northward flow of warm sea water to slow down.
7. The slowing of the warming flow is causing the blob to form.
If we were reading something from a serious scientific source, we would be reading about how the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) is entering a cooling phase, right on schedule, as it has been doing cyclically for centuries. The cooling may be more pronounced at this time because the Pacific elNino event, which can override the AMO, has only just started to turn back on.
NYC temperatures hit 100° on July 2, 1966, and 103° the next day, July 3.
That was 57 years ago.
Weather Deniers!
WRONG!!!! Idiot. Might presumptuous for George Lee to speak for all 8 billion of us.
Well, nobody important anyway.
The world may be warming but what I want to know is why is it so freaking cold outside right now?
“Nobody seriously doubts anymore that the world is warming”
Sure it’s warming. It’s called summer.
