I grew up without air-conditioning.
Summer nights were the worst. Hot, humid, windows open to street with all the noise of people, cars, animals. Later in my teens, I had an oscillating fan in my bedroom.
I vowed that when I grew up, my house would have central air.
And every house I ever bought had it.

BREAKING 🚨 IRS whistleblowers reveal WhatsApp messages wherein Hunter Biden sought payment from Chinese officials. Due to evidence being at then-VP Joe Biden’s home, US Attorney Lesley Wolf said a search warrant would not get approved. Attorneys for Biden were told prior to a search of a NoVA storage unit, providing ample time to remove any incriminating items. In March of 2022, Delaware US Attorney David Weiss tried to bring charges in D.C. and was denied. Weiss was then denied two more times; once by the DOJ and then in the central district of California.

I never had central air until we moved back to Wa. in 1979 and bought our first house here.

I did too. On really hot nights we would sit out on the screened in porch through the night.

back in the day, - 1995 - chicago had x-amount of consecutive days of heat index 125-ish with 106 to 113 degree temps.
739 died in one week from the heat and no one claimed some of the bodies.
https://vlab.noaa.gov/web/nws-heritage/-/great-chicago-heat-wave-of-1995 Living in a different county, we were in the heat area and had the same type of temps - no A/C. Window fans were overmatched. The window A/C unit kept tripping the circuit breaker.
My daughter finally jumps off the couch and screams "Go buy Central a/c and figure out how to pay for it later." which we eventually did.
Same daughter now lives in Wichita Falls Texas.

Of Course, obviously, she has a/c and a large outdoor pool.
