🧵 1. It’s 6:30 pm. We’ve been hearing since this morning that we’d soon be casting votes on amendments and on the final Biden-McCarthy bill. Meanwhile, we’re adding steadily to the list of Republicans (currently 30) inclined to vote against the bill.

2. We still don’t know how many Democrats will oppose it, but remember: it takes only 41 votes to kill this monstrosity in the Senate. Is this thing in trouble? It could be, especially considering that some Dems really dislike it and Republican opposition is growing fast.

3. Either way, we have to remember that more Dems voted for this bill in the House than Republicans. It’s now a virtual certainty that—if this passes, and I’m no longer sure it will—it will pass with more support from Democrats than Republicans in the Senate. GOP got played.

4. If you detest this bill—which does nothing it purports to do—please encourage your senators to oppose it.
