Belk selling transgender pride shirts for toddlers: 'So happy to be me'
FOX BUSINESS NEWS ^ | May 30, 2023 | Jessica Chasmar

Belk is targeting children as young as 2 with transgender pride merchandise.

Until Tuesday, the department store chain’s website was selling a boys’ T-shirt that displayed the words, "So happy to be me," and featured a blue, pink and white happy face — the colors of the transgender pride flag.

The shirt was removed from Belk's website just hours after Fox Business reached out asking if it was aware of the merchandise. The company did not provide a statement by press time.

"Show support with this kids Pride graphic t-shirt. Our toddler and youth t-shirt is soft and durable for everyday wear," Belk’s description for the shirt stated.

While the description of the shirt said it was meant for boys ages 4 to 7, it was available in sizes as small as 2T (toddler).

We have Belks here in eastern TN. When I need to buy housewares, that’s where I find stuff. Since I HATE shopping, the last time I went was in 2016. I do like the store.

If people are “so happy to be me” they wouldn’t seek out homosexual relationships and wish to be the other sex.

Back in the 70s our local version was named “Gallant-Belk”. It was the best place to buy professional office wear and I remember my mother taking me there for new school clothes. Our mall that is in the process of being sold to the county to be convert to county business offices, had Belk as it’s anchor store.

“Belk, Inc. is an American department store chain founded in 1888 by William Henry Belk in Monroe, North Carolina, with nearly 300 locations in 16 states. Belk stores and Belk.com offer apparel, shoes, accessories, cosmetics, home furnishings, and wedding registry.”

They’re in Florida, too. This is disappointing. I liked shopping there.

In my youth, Belk and Ivey’s were huge department stores in downtown Charlotte. Both were multi-story buildings on the main street...within just a few stores of “The Square”...the intersection of the two main streets downtown. ALWAYS a big treat to ride on the bus with Mom, from the poor side of town, to shop. Ivey’s eventually became Dillard’s. As malls were built in Charlotte, both stores moved to the malls as anchor tenants. The old Ivey’s downtown building was sold, becoming a high-end condo tower. The Belk building...not sure what eventually became of it. As a teenager, I was hired as an electrician’s helper and actually worked in the old Belk building while it was being rehabbed.

Both Belk and Dillard’s now have stores in the 3 local malls. Belk has around 300 stores in the Southeast USA.

I can’t remember the last time I went to either store.
