- as they call for her to be made a saint The abbey which previously would receive no more than 20 visitors per day is now seeing about 1,000 visitors on a daily basis After May 29, her body will be encased in glass, meaning visitors will no longer be able to touch the body The church officials said they are investigating Lancaster's case, as incorruptibility can be a sign of sainthood

Thousands of people are flocking to witness Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster's body after it was recovered from her Missouri grave without any signs of decay despite being buried since 2019.

Faithful Catholics are rushing to Gower - about 40 miles north of Kansas City - to witness the unblemished body of Lancaster, who died in May 2019 at the age of 95, as some are calling it a miraculous sign of sainthood.

The abbey which previously would receive no more than 20 visitors per day is now seeing about 1,000 visitors on a daily basis, according to Ashlie Hand, a spokesperson with the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.

'As of Tuesday, they were seeing about 1,000 visitors a day. I think now, it's probably well above that. The expectation is the crowd will grow over the holiday weekend,' Hand said to Fox4.

Hand said it's possible the monastery would receive up to 20,000 visitor this over the weekend.

The Superstitious relic people

It’d be pretty easy to tell if she was embalmed, but yes, there will certainly be an investigation to confirm if there’s any fraud or naturalistic explanations. I doubt the explanation is as simple as embalming, because the last thing the monastery wants would be to be known as “that monastery that scammed people with the embalmed nun.”... but “they’d have to be stupid” hardly ever makes for a sound argument.

They don’t understand the biblical term “Saint”.

Lenin was embalmed, mummified, cooled, and placed in a sterile environment by scientists dedicated to preserving his corpse. This nun was put in a plain pine box and buried in a field. Not exactly comparable.

Comparable in terms of creepiness.

“Lenin still looks in pretty good shape after almost 100 years, and he’s far from being a saint.”

Lennon’s body requires continuous refreshment, It is re-embalmed periodically to keep it in condition, plus it’s in a room that is humidity and temperature controlled, along with under the glass covering.

I’m not certain but I think I read that in a National Geographic issue years ago but it might have been Smithsonian Magazine.

Who knows, it might even be wax at this point in time given the technological advances in that media.

I am not an athiest or a Catholic basher, but I agree with you. If she is “uncorrupted” with no signs of decay, why the wax face mask. Also they ask people to be gentle touching her feet. Why is that? Her left foot looks like it is about ready to fall off. If God did this to her body, he would have done a much more convincing job IMHO.

Every now and then they’ll come across an ancient body in the bogs of Britain, tannin contained in the peat almost perfectly preserves the features.

Perhaps the pine box combined with tannins in the soil influenced the natural preservation.

Yeah... she’s not in a peat bog. Key ingredients for bog bodies: perennial low temperatures (Nope), nearby saltwater seas (nope), humic acid (nope), pickling effect on body (nope), sphagnum mosses (nope).

Having grown up as a Catholic, in a large Catholic family in highly Catholic Western NY, Catholics are one hugely superstitious lot.

Missouri has had some pretty dry years lately - and there are places where the soil is some kind of PIA clay that can be quite impervious to water/air movement.

Not embalmed

So what? She is dead! She's not here! Her body is rotting and it will return to dust.

Out focus and faith should be on a living resurrected Christ who is returning soon. We should be celebrating those who have died in Christ and living in heaven - not their dead corpse.

“Meanwhile, Rebecca George, an anthropology tutor at the Western Carolina University, said the body’s lack of decomposition might not be that rare.

She said that coffins and clothing help to preserve bodies.

She added: “Typically, when we bury people, we don’t exhume them. We don’t get to look at them a couple years out.”

“With 100 years, there might be nothing left. But when you’ve got just a few years out, this is not unexpected.””

SICK!

Saw this in Arizona (near Tucson) Some dead priest was on display and the parishioners all filed by and rubbed his bald head.

They even had a mechanical device that partially raised him up at the waist for each viewer. We had no idea (being tourists just looking for a church on Sunday) what was happening, we just went along with the procession until we saw what it was all about. CREEPY!

NO! We DIDN’T pat his head!
