Florida woman charged with DUI after driving SUV onto crowded beach

A Florida woman faces a charge of driving under the influence after deputies in Volusia County said she drove onto a crowded beach.
The incident happened Saturday at Smyrna Dunes Park in New Smyrna Beach where families were enjoying the Memorial Day weekend.
Witnesses reported that the reckless driver plowed into the water after speeding down the beach at 50 mph in close proximity to several families and their dogs, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said the driver, identified as Sarah Ramsammy, 26, of Orlando, almost hit a child.

You used to be able to drive on the beach in Daytona Beach.
A lot of folks would get stuck in the sand though. But there were plenty of the local “rednecks” in pickup trucks ready to bail them out, of course you’d have to buy them a six-pack.

Hah! During the old Beach/Road track races when NASCAR just got started, the race cars would get stuck in the sand coming into the North turn off the beach. The spectators lining the turn would rush out and push them free while other race cars sped right around them. Then on the South turn, off the road back onto the beach, if the driver took the turn a little too wide they’d end up in the water.
