“Made in America by Americans, an American brand is a powerful thing, and we’re excited about it,” Scout Chief Executive Officer Scott Keogh told The Wall Street Journal this year after closing the deal to locate Scout’s first manufacturing plant in South Carolina.
“This is going to put us right into the heart of the action,” he added.
...A few months after the Navistar acquisition, in March 2021, VW’s management board held a strategy conference at the company’s headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, and laid the groundwork to resurrect the Scout brand as a rugged all-electric SUV and pickup truck, according to company officials. Then, last year, VW announced its plan to revive the brand as a fully-owned independent American subsidiary with local management centered around an iconic American vehicle—a first for VW.
Scout dates back to the late 1950s, when Ted Ornas, an auto designer for International Harvester, designed the company’s first Scout, a four-wheel-drive recreational vehicle, something that didn’t exist at the time.

Thank you.
Yeh, what do they think a Jeep is?
I’m sure heterosexuals have had sex in the back of a rabbit.
A rugged all electric EV?
The will of "We The RATs".
This looks good on paper until they run into supply line shortages like everyone else.

ICE or battery does not matter.
What MATTERS is
1) Make it inexpensive
2) Make it simple
3) Make it reliable
4) Make it to where an average shade-tree mechanic can work on it
5) Make it NOT butt-ugly
I did, too, in the late 1970s. My Dad bought it used in the 1960s and eventually gave it to me. Mostly rugged but crude. Great New England snow car - it had limited slip on both ends, which meant that if you could get just ONE wheel on traction, it would move. Had it's mechanical quirks, and the body rusted, but after running it for about 5-6 years more I sold it to a New York deer hunter who was overjoyed to get it.
Most people cannot afford Tesla’s or any EV. They are only for the wealthy.
Purchasing an EV battery would bankrupt most people.
Volkswagen brought Navistar, so they got the Scout name with the merger.
Bring back The Trabant!
I had heterosexual sex in the back of a Subaru. Hatch open, seats folded, it was quite comfy. Was out in the woods with my soon-to-be wife. Is that allowed?
Just make it with an ICE and they will sell millions of them, F EV’s.
The thing is, VW will still have to cozy up to China to get the rare Earth minerals to make the EV’s.
Put an ICE in it, make the inside waterproof (for easy beach/mud/dirt cleaning), and boom, you’ve got a million sold.
In the upper midwest, a 40-50 year old Scout still will bring a premium and will be snapped-up quickly if it doesn’t sell thru the buddy-network. No matter how many times the floor pan has been replaced.

Some, yes.
We recently had a new roof installed, the first time in over forty years not installed by the inhabitants.
Cost $20,000.
Fortunately, my wife made some good investments over the years and my employer was generous.

Most cars depreciate with age and deductions are made for need repairs. EVs are no different.
What do you believe the value of a 2022 Ford electric f-150 will be IN 10 YEARS?...
NOTHING CLOSE TO THE CRAZY MARKUPS PAID TODAY.
Early Hondas were terrible for rust, but nothing beats the Vega!
That was my first vehicle! But mine was green. Good memories...
—”...for rust, but nothing beats the Vega!”
FOR SURE NEAR THE TOP OF THE HEAP!
My brother had one from new... later with a large hole at each corner.
Still, he drove it for many years.
Mine had a slant 4 cyl engine(half the international b8 I believe). On long trips the vibration would loosen the starter motor bolts and it would be hanging there.
