I hear ya. I bought some raised bed mix. $12/bag. For the price of 4-5 bags, I could get a yard of compost(30 bags?) put in the back of my truck and mix it 50/50 with my soil, a la Sq Ft Gardening version 1 method. Really long drive though.

Beau is always amazed that I even BUY potting mix.

Use your Grumpy Old Man Voice: “We have 160 ACRES of DIRT! WHY do you need to BUY dirt?”

LOL!

HOWEVER - the soil in my raised beds is LIKE BUTTAH! I love these years when he adds compost and lightly tills. If we GET SOME RAIN, I should have a very good growing season ahead. :)

Still have flowers to pop in here and there; other than that it’s Water, Weed & Wait Season up here on The Frozen Tundra.

As an Added Bonus, I saw hog panels laid out in the grassy part of the garden, today. That means I’m getting another compost bin! *DELIGHTED SQUEAL*

It takes so little to make me happy! And that’s how it SHOULD be in Life. ;)

Daniel; Assuming you have a specific tomato variety for your seeds? If its from a tomato from the supermarket its hard to know if the variety will be true.

All seedlings except Ace 55 Tomato Seeds, 50 Seed Pack (@$2.99- + free ship) were from my own harvesting (various Cherry, Big Boy), or a few (4th of July) from a neighbor. But it seems even heirlooms are hybrids to a degree that may not reproduce according to the original, and it may be better to purchase from seed companies.

Rockport & rocks....Better to live on rocks in MA than up north in the Allagash in ME where its all water and mosquitos! :0

Yes, Rockport is aptly named, and stone walls had plenty of free source. And yes, while we often wrongly lament the climate here we have it far better than neighbors to the North. And mosquitos do not much come out here until temps are over 60. I try to cover the water barrels but a 1-2 second shot of non-stick food spray prevents breeding or escape. Must be repeated after rain.

I hope that God continues to bless your ministry!

Meaning hope that our ministry is a blessing to God! Ps. 103.
