When I was an adolescent southern belle (1960s) my momma enrolled me in a 6-week summer Charm School at the local recreation center.
There, we young ladies & gents learned how to dance the waltz & dine with the proper fork, how to distinguish between a bowl of soup & a finger bowl, perform a firm handshake or present one’s hand for a kiss, carry out formal & casual introductions, & otherwise carry ourselves properly in Society with Class & Refinement.
I remember we girls were given an hour-long instruction on the Ladylike Way to Consume A Banana, while the boys looked on, red-faced & choking with restrained laughter.
