Trump has openly come out to the LEFT of DeSantis on:
Abortion
Gun Control
Groomers
If you care about conservatism, Trump has abandoned you. He has openly blamed conservatives for the losses in 2020 and 2022.
for the record, Trump did the same thing in 2015 and it freaked me out. Then he wins and he’s VERY conservative and I was mucho relieved. This go round, I fully believe he’s acting the centrist to garner the independent vote (which is necessary) and will continue to govern as a conservative.
Look at all the judges he put in place that were KEY to abortion being overturned. If you think he’s pro abortion, he never would have done that. Yet in 15/16 he was very ‘liberal’ on abortion. Winning the female vote (which is frickin sad if you ask me that they need the ability to kill babies to be happy)
Trump’s positions on those issues have not changed. If you want to argue that DeSantis is more conservative than Trump on abortion, that’s fine. Maybe he is. But that doesn’t mean Trump has moved left on the issue.
Trump’s SCOTUS picks has given the power back to the states on abortion. That’s his major achievement on the issue and, as he puts it, it has leveled the playing field, allowing any future legislation on the issue, whether federal, state, or local, to be decided on an even footing and not giving pro-abortionists an advantage right out of the gate.
As far as Gun Control and groomers, there’s no basis on which to claim DeSantis is stronger on those issues than Trump. And don’t bring up Disney as a counter example. Trump never sided with Disney as far as their criticism of the “Don’t say gay” bill. He criticized DeSantis’s response to that criticism for being poorly thought through and being designed more for optics than anything else.
