A California father died after being struck by a car Thursday night while helping a family of ducks cross a busy road, witnesses said.
The horrifying crash took place at Stanford Ranch Road and Park Drive in the city of Rocklin, about 22 miles from Sacramento, just after 8 p.m.
William Wimsatt, a 12-year-old boy who witnessed the kindhearted stranger’s actions, told KCRA 3 the man had stepped out of his car to help the ducks avoid traffic. “He got out of the car and was shooing the ducks and everyone was clapping because he was being really nice,” William said.

Kinda like Dick the Bruiser used to say about driving in the winter...
And remember, always yield the right of way...... to the bigger vehicle!!!
My wife and I, in our Suburban with 6 kids, watch as a mom duck and family began to cross a 4 lane. The light turned green and mom, one whole duckling and one lamé duckling , out of about a dozen, made it.
Or walking ducks across a street...
It is and she will probably never want to drive again.
I would bet a lot of money the 17-year old was on her phone.
This is what happens when animals become more important than people. Recall a recent post telling how a guy caused a massive accident by stopping for a crossing turtle. And then there’s all the pit bull horror stories.
I was thinking that too.
I remember reading on facebook that you should help turtles across highways too. I thought Nope. I like turtles but I like not being hit by cars better.
Classic Rush parody.
Yeah, peeps. I’m in Oregon. We pioneered the “ Don’t Californicate _____” movement.
I don't disagree ... but as drivers, we have a positive obligation to not crash into things. Assuming no impairment or distraction, this looks rather like a tragedy of errors.
Agreed..
I would help a turtle, but not at risk of my life
The man tragically believed the thoughts and actions of all others in that situation were aligned with what this man deemed to be the most important action at that time, or their thoughts and actions were suspended from his reality.
The young woman driving had not yet learned that despite all the promises of the state motor vehicle division, common sense, logic, and reason, her belief that other adults would measure their behavior with safety in mind simply wasn't true. The state refuses to publish truths in the drivers' manual and drivers' education courses that many other drivers and pedestrians may be completely unaware of the risks they pose to themselves and to others.
And a basis for the old saying "No good deed goes unpunished".
Wow. I used to live over near there about 22 years ago. Sad.
LOL!
He is t the first to dies this way. A while back a woman got her little daughter killed doing the same thing on a blind curve. So stupid.
RIP to a kind man who deserved better. Sometimes mistakes happen that are tragic and unfortunate. He turned around to walk back and unfortunately a teen age girl who was likely distracted by her phone cost him his life. A more attentive driver would surely have seen cars stopped on the road.
I learned a few years ago that if you’re driving a bus and drive over a turtle,!you can hear the shell crack.
Yes, the 49 lives behind me were far more valuable than a turtle.
