There are two armies opposing Ukraine’s.

“Wagner”, composed of mercenaries and “contracted” prisoners has been doing most of the fighting and dying. The “lesser” Russian Army—composed of conscripts, is not up to the job.

Look at the countryside videos. Russian artillery has put craters all over the place! None are within 200 yards of another crater, and not close to any other trail of tracked or wheeled vehicles. Is their “shotgun” approach effective? It sure doesn’t seem so.

And...does Ukraine HAVE TO HOLD Bakhmut? I recall that “U.S. interests” said to leave it.

Get real. Putin is not fighting the Ukes; he is fighting the whole of US/NATO. You should know that.

So here we have, according to the US media, a third-world country that is in massive decline from economic sanctions and that is now in control of 20% of the former Uke territory. Plus, they have just captured the regional city of Bakmut (along with a few others) with a rag-tag bunch of former prisoners and malcontents.

Doesn't it somehow remind you of all the massive successes from the past, like Vietnam, Afghanistan, Syria, etc?

The regularly-placed craters (checkerboard-fashion) are indicative of unguided artillery. Ukraine’s army, thanks to modern US’ shells, are far more focused.

True, for the limited number of HIMAR shells they had. And thanks to this unnecessary war, the Russians (and therefore ALL FUTURE US OPPONENTS) have figured out how to disable the “guidance” features of those shells. Notice the distinct lack of gloating recently on the successes of “Mister HIMARS”?

This Canadian link reports a loss-ratio of five Russians for every one Ukrainian.

Those numbers, however regrettable, should have kept Ukraine in Bakhmut as long as feasible.
