Cops want to be martyrs. Think they are the only people with dangerous jobs. Unlike truck drivers tree trimmers steel mill workers coal miners it goes on and on. Cops ain’t that special.
Every job has its own unique set of dangers. You can't equate the duties of a coal miner, or a tree trimmer's job with those of a cop. Police have to deal with the public, people they don't know, every day, and strangers breaking the law they have to confront with unknown outcomes. No two incidents they respond to are the same. One thing they do have in common is, if you take short-cuts, don't follow safety procedures, aren't observant, and take chances, eventually you will become a victim of your own arrogance and stupidity, or somebody else's.
