Depleted means depleted...the sun gives off more radiation.
“Depleted means depleted...the sun gives off more radiation.”
Unsurprising the same folk who don’t understand basic science are the same ones who don’t understand politics.
The Geiger counters and what not don’t agree.
Why do you spread talking points propaganda. There is a big difference between radiation from the sun and radiation from a particle that keeps putting out radiation endlessly.
The sun’s radiation is EM and ionic. Radioactive materials release nuclear radiation. All three are actually different things. But the chief thing to worry about with DU is toxicity, not radiation. DU is mostly U-238 which is only mildly radioactive. It’s much more poisonous.
Exactly. But the big boggety-boogety is the word uranium. Dat uranium is radioacteev. Radioacteev is bad. Nukes is evil.
These armchair idiots have no clue what they are talking about. The metal is very dense. Thus it's very good for use for anti-armor rounds.
But...it's uranium ya know.
It’s a toxic heavy metal.
But yes, not radioactive.
I love it when uninformed people chime in on things they do not understand. You have the whole Internet to search and find out what depleted uranium is and how dangerous it is.
The “depleted” in “depleted Uranium” means that it is natural uranium that has been processed to remove the fissionable U-235 isotope leaving a larger fraction of U-238 than occurs in nature. U-238 does not fission, but it still decays and releases alpha, beta, and gamma radiation. Most of the energy of decay is from alpha particles, so it is particularly dangerous when vaporized and dispersed in an explosion.

True... but completely aside from the radiation danger from refined uranium, the substance itself is classified as toxic. Not good to breath in unless lung cancer or renal failure is your hobby...
Do not expect good science from modern journalism...

There's no valid comparison. The sun is farther away and humans don't ingest radioactive material in the air when exposed to sunlight.
Depleted Uranium is harmful to inhale because once lodged in tissures, it continues to give off energy for thousands or millions of years, although at a lower rate than originally manufactured.
"The half-life of uranium-238 is about 4.5 billion years, uranium-235 about 700 million years, and uranium-234 about 250 thousand years."
According to Wikipedia, depleted uranium has around 60% of the radioactivity of natural (unenriched) uranium.
