A nearly 150-year-old stained-glass church window that depicts a dark-skinned Jesus Christ interacting with women in New Testament scenes has stirred up questions about race, Rhode Island’s role in the slave trade and the place of women in 19th century New England society.
The window installed at the long-closed St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Warren in 1878 is the oldest known public example of stained glass on which Christ is depicted as a person of color that one expert has seen.
“This window is unique and highly unusual,” said Virginia Raguin, a professor of humanities emerita at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and an expert on the history of stained-glass art. “I have never seen this iconography for that time.”
The 12-foot tall, 5-foot wide (3.7 meters by 1.5 meters) window depicts two biblical passages in which women, also painted with dark skin, appear as equals to Christ. One shows Christ in conversation with Martha and Mary, the sisters of Lazarus, from the Gospel of Luke. The other shows Christ speaking to the Samaritan woman at the well from the Gospel of John. […]
The window was commissioned by a Mary P. Carr in honor of two women, apparently her late aunts, whose names appear on the glass, (Hadley) Arnold said. Mrs. H. Gibbs and Mrs. R. B. DeWolf were sisters, and both married into families involved in the slave trade. The DeWolf family made a fortune as one of the nation’s leading slave-trading families; Gibbs married a sea captain who worked for the DeWolfs. Both women had been listed as donors to the American Colonization Society, founded to support the migration of freed slaves to Liberia in Africa. …

Mine too!
Did you know it was considered punishable by death to even say Mohammad, the Devil’s “prophet”, was black?
That one expert is a stupid fool for making himself an expert in baseless futility.
Aging — particularly in the presence of innumerable candles burned — would account for that.
Olive skin color from being “born” in Israel
Another example of blacks trying to own a culture other than their own failed cult of violent feral animals.
Here is an actual polaroid taken just before the last supper.
Heh ... next you’ll tell us He drove a Honda because He said He didn’t speak of His own Accord.

Since Jesus is God’s son - on many levels all in
‘the family of man’ can claim Him as ours.
Or maybe God is Jewish and chose a Jewish woman to carry His child.
I can make a case for many positions.
Wash the windows and get back to me.
That’s fine for white and near white people. Thye can be saved by a white Jesus ‘cause they got white souls. But where, oh where, is the Black Messiah? When can I get my black soul saved?
(/race-tinged glasses)
“Jesus probably looked like an Arab with medium dark skin.”
All throughout the Mediterranean area including Spain, Greece, Italy, The Levant, they are “Olive” skinned. Is is normal even for Arabic tribes.
The most beautiful women I have ever seen were from Greece or Italy with Olive skin and GREEN eyes. Same with Jewish and Arabic peoples, many have Olive skin and Green eyes.
We do NOT know what color the eyes or skin of Jesus actually were no matter how he has been depicted... Nor will we ever... Prove racist stance or take a hike. It is a nothing burger nonissue.
Except to someone who is racist...
Oh, my lord! This is outrageous! Support for a back to Africa movement! We need to immediately rename schools and streets named for Marcus Garvey to something decent! Like George Floyd, or St. Skittles or even Fentanyl!
*I* know.
His skin was plaid and he had polka-dot eyes.
President Jefferson supported the organization and it did result in the repatriated slaves from America founding the Republic of Liberia in West Africa.
Lol! A great line wryly-delivered by Niven.

Are you fishing for racists under the Troll bridge?
