And Franco wasn't "totalitarian." He was a simple authoritarian strongman.

There was no Franco Youth. No indoctrination camps. He protected private property, and allowed parents and the Church raise children as they saw fit.

Did you live under the man? He DID establish concentration camps, extrajudicial executions, torture , religious persecution , forced labor and murdered some 200,000 people. Some estimates place the number he killed at 400,000 . Franco tolerated only one political party and that was his party, the Fascists! Do some research. We're free people here on this site, we have no love for dictators .

Authoritarianism and totalitarianism are two sides to the same coin.

Most of Europe was Authoritarian even before Hitler came to power, Franco wasn’t an outlier. And he did save Spain. Mainly because had the Republicans won the Civil War, Hitler may very well have invaded and occupied Spain. Franco kept Hitler away from that by throwing him a bone or two.
