Alligators can do saltwater. I was swimming in the Gulf when I was a kid, and this “log” kept getting closer and closer.
I got my brother out of the water and ran to the car. It was a gator, and he got out, walked across the road and went into the fresh water.
Such is growing up in Florida.
Yup, alligators do occasionally swim in the Gulf. There are alligators on Horn Island which is an island off the coast of Mississippi just two islands over from Dauphin Island. Going west from Dauphin Island the next island is Petit Bois Island, then Horn Island. For years one of the largest known alligators in Mississippi made his home on Horn Island. The national park service website mentions the alligators on Horn Island and reminds visitors they’re protected and to leave them alone.
The Louisiana bayous around New Orleans are made up of brackish water (a mixture of saltwater and freshwater).
Yep. Learned to waterski in central Florida lakes - you could see the 'gators sunning themselves on the banks as you went by. Did not want to take a spill in that area, fer sure.
What part of the Gulf, not that it matters?
