There was a radio show guy that would ask a dumb question of a caller and give them $100 or whatever for each correct answer.
I recall one that went something like:
“Ok - now for $100, at your house, what direction does the sun set in.”
“Oh - at MY house!? Well, um - that’s at night right?”
“Well, in the evening as it is going setting.”
“Oh - okay. It’s going down.”
“No - I mean in what direction is the sun when it goes down.”
“Oh - well, over by the porch.”
It went on and on like that. I don’t recall the gal ever did get the answer correct. It might have been a setup caller/actor, but I don’t think so.
My daughter posted something about how Wendy’s 1/3 pounder hamburger was created to compete with McDonald’s 1/4 pounder at the same price.
It failed - so many folks figured why pay the same for a smaller hamburger!
That Wendy’s story sounded too unbelievable so I looked it up.
I was wrong.

It was A&W who tried it and failed due to idiots.
It didn't used to be noticeable but the last thirty years have definitely shown a vast deterioration in education levels - and it's no better with those who've attended colleges.
I think Jay Leno retired (as this was about his best bit) because he 1.Had more money than he'd ever be able to spend, and 2.No longer needed to venture out for "Jay-Walkers" when the studio audience was already full of them. Temples of Sirynx indeed.
