New York CNN —
A major Paramount division announced Tuesday it will shutter MTV News and slash its US workforce by 25%, bringing to an end the iconic music video network’s news division that once covered a range of issues from pop culture to politics and became a household name for Generation X and Millennial adolescents.
Chris McCarthy, who heads Paramount Media Networks, MTV and Showtime, said in a memo to staff Tuesday that despite the media giant’s “success” in streaming, the company continues to “feel pressure from broader economic headwinds like many of our peers.”
“As a result, we have made the very hard but necessary decision to reduce our domestic team by approximately 25%,” he continued. “Through the elimination of some units and by streamlining others, we will be able to reduce costs and create a more effective approach to our business as we move forward.”

Well anyway Nina was the best looking VJ, Martha acted to innocent, and I can't remember the three original male VJ's.
The early years were fun, but by 2010, you didn’t need MTV to see the new videos. YouTube had everything but the Hosts.
Remember when there was music on Music TeleVision?
I remember the big 3 Aerosmith videos with a teenage Alicia Silverstone. I would have been 14 or so at the time. Who would have guessed she’d become such a nut.
I vaguely remember. I haven’t watched it in years.
Watching Beavis and Butthead make fun of the videos was good times.
I used to laugh at them in my youth. Now I see them as a bad influence since they glorify stupidity.
No....Martha and it’s not even close.
Oh, noeeesers! Shuttering MTV News?? The landmark pinnacle news service that foreshadowed today’s journalistic standards with such classics as asking Bill Clinton “Boxers or briefs?”????
MTV had news? go figure..
I think MTV is just a useless dinosaur that needs to die!
Ha! I still remember the day when I turned on MTV looking for music, only to find a stand up comedy special, then turning it over to Comedy Central to find a "Best Musical Guests of SNL" show.
Well okay, I guess I have to take in bad taste.
Kurt Loder - one of the most recognizable voices in the 90s; Just Say Julie (with Julie Brown); Absolutely Fabulous. Good memories.
Yes I do. Didn’t last long.
I honestly think if mtv went back to its 1980s format it would get more viewers. I don’t think or ever hear anyone watch it.
Who can stand that voice? Have you heard her lately? She sounds like Marge Simpsons sisters.
Oh no!
Where will I get my left wing talking points now?
Tabitha Soren was a winner.
