One of my favorite songs. LS does it well, but heard a “cover
band” do it in Port Aransas, Texas about 30 years ago, was at a motel known for “gay” etc. people before it was a big thing, owned by 2 very hard working lesbians. The “alt” sex thing is not my deal, but it was a good night, lots of Lone Star Beer and the wife was amazed when I managed to sing the song word for word along with the band. How I got invited to that party I don’t know.

Well, that brings back memories!

Does it ever.

Many, MANY moons ago, I did service work at various establishments including some bars. I was at one of the largest of these bars one night and who but the owner's wife grabs my hand and drags me out to the dance floor. I'm looking toward the back to see if the owner is there, don't find him, and figure if I turn her down I could be in big trouble anyway. Sort of "damned if I do and damned if I don't". So, I do, and maybe two minutes into dancing I spot her husband in back, after all. Scowling at me, or maybe her, or both of us. This guy was well known for getting drunk and waving a gun around. I'd have waved him over to take over for me, but this dude NEVER danced (at least not in public.) His wife sees this, she's buzzed but still somewhat perceptive, and mischieviously proceeds to throw some more, uh, wiggle into the dance.

"Oh, wait a minute mister, I'm NOT gonna kiss her" was about what was running through my mind... About then, a couple of the off duty barmaids decide I might need rescuing, and join us - now it's a 4-way dance and that pretty well defused things.

Later I found out that Mr. Owner actually considered me the only man he knew who he'd trust dancing with his wife... I guess he was mostly not happy with her, for embarrasing him, in his view.

Anyway, that all helped put "Gimme Three Steps" pretty high on my list of favorite Skynyrd tunes!
