The entire Covid protocol is harmful. A respiratory therapist turned whistleblower left his job when he realized the CDC’s Covid protocol was killing patients, as was his hospital which employed that protocol. He said that normally he would be allowed to sit patients up or even take them for a walk for little breaks from ventilator (oxygen tank on wheels for the walk) but the protocol required they remain on their backs 24/7, which is bad for their symptoms, the lungs can’t clear like that.
They would be given IV’s, Remdesivir to shut down kidney and other organ function, and then fluid would back up into the lungs causing pulmonary edema, which would be diagnosed as a Covid inflammation/complication - this continued until the patient died. Covid on the death record.
Your summary is quite accurate. Additionally, in order to "tolerate" the intubation, the use of "sedative hypnotic" drugs and even tying down patients' hands when they struggle to remove the ventilator mechanism was part of the "protocol." >P> Source: Sedation in mechanically ventilated covid-19 patients: A narrative review for emergency medicine providers

The official stats testify that the United States had more than four times the number of deaths per capita as many third world countries, and your explanation and the additional citation are a valid explanation of why. The "protocol" supercharged by the CARES act funds turns out to have been deadly.
With a FWIW, just ran across on Twitter...

We had never used these ventilator settings in my 17 yrs as a RN that NIH/CDC insisted on to remove hospital liability- My God ppl would have a PEEP of 22 or 24-blowing out the lungs and damaging the heart-oh and then the Remdisivir
