When I was younger max calories per dollar was what I looked for in a restaurant. The local Chinese buffet was great for that.
Over the decades my metabolism has gone down and my bank account gone up, so I haven’t been to a buffet in quite a while.
When I was in college, a friend of mine who was about 6’6” and 250 lb would eat his only meal of the day at a local buffet restaurant. After a while I think they eighty-sixed him.
Like you, I don’t do buffets anymore, though I would if I found a good Chinese one.

I used to like buffet as well, but now I find I prefer to just cook it myself unless it is something I can’t like fried chicken. Then some of the grocery store chains have it a lot cheaper than a restaurant.
For some reason, my mother loves the casino buffet in town, and that is literally all she wants. Mothers day, fathers day, birthday, thanksgiving, easter, christmas. Every event, every year. No home cooked thanksgiving turkeys allowed, and I like cooking. It is like 80 bucks each, and she generally has a salad and an egg roll and an eclaire. Covid shut her favorite one down, but she quickly found the other one that didn’t close. God love her, but I swear I will never set foot in a buffet ever again after she is gone
