Manfred Mann’s cover of Springsteen’s Blinded by the Light...even if “Duece” is screwed up. Pure brilliance by Manfred Mann, mixing up deuce with douche. I was surprised that the song got through the censors in the mid 70's.

Enpirically I'd have to say the "best cover" as judged by commercial success is probably Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You (Dolly Parton, 1973) It was #1 for like 2 years or seemed like it. Set all kinds of records (no pun intended).
