No question Mozart was a genius!
I just found the similarities interesting. You KNOW how much I love Handel’s Messiah, and look forward to your presentation every Christmas. And so, when I heard those intervals evolving into a fugue, it made me sit up in my seat. :-0
(By the way, I was in NO WAY comparing Ed Sheerin to Mozart. LOL!)
PS, the ambiguous chord of the Root, the Fifth, and the Octave , is common in Rock Guitar and is known as a “Power Chord”. Without the third, it is neither Major nor Minor, but, as you stated, creates a whole different sound than a usual triad.
It’s amazing how Mozart uses it, as you said, to create a space like The Abyss.
Power Chords in Rock also have a dark quality to them. Thanks for pointing that out.
Now when I teach kids Power Chords, I can tell them Mozart used one in his Requiem! :-)
I’m partial to the fugue.
When I have some time I’ll listen to the two pieces. I don’t doubt that Mozart copied, although I have no idea how it would be perceived in those days.
Well I see it as giants building on the shoulders of giants, rather than copying.
Ed Sheerin, on the other hand...
Thanks. Listening now.
This thread made me think about Biden’s plagiarism.
