In the electric vehicle competition Toyota is yet to register.
Toyota makes the BZ4E, which is a true EV, not a hybrid. If you want an electric Toyota, you can have one. Almost everybody who wants a Toyota wants an ICE or Hybrid version.

We have Toyotas, as do our friends. Would never consider ICE or hybrid.

Almost everybody who wants a Toyota wants an ICE or Hybrid version. Nope, my Toyota uses only gas, and I want it that way.
If I were to switch to a different type of Toyota, it would be a Hybrid, because they make sense to me... no running around looking for an electric plug, so I can waste more time "charging my battery".
The hybrid charges the battery from the usage of the car while in motion, no long waits at the butt plug station.
