Hundreds of locals in one of San Francisco's wealthiest counties have been forced to pack up their lives into RVs and trailers after being pushed out of the housing market.
Shocking photos show the ever-growing line of trucks and other vehicles along 101 Highway – which now stretches over two miles in one of the largest encampments in the country.
Cities in Marin County, where on average homes cost $1.4million, are pushing for the line along the highway to end after the number of residents living in their cars ballooned during the pandemic.
Photos and video taken by DailyMail.com show families living in tents and using portable barbeques as their belongings spill out of the RV's and trucks.
Some appear to have used flags to mark the area of road that they use for their home, with many pulling tarpaulin over their cars to protect their possessions.
Officials say that there are at least 135 vehicles along Binford Road, on the outskirts of Novato, as the number who call it home has expanded.
The average household income in the county is $131,000 – which has left those with lower incomes nowhere to turn.
Residents of the surrounding area are now coming together to try to help bring the encampment to an end by helping people find services they need.
Every month they are given free groceries, assistance with their housing case management, medical assistance and much more.
There will be a push for the services to be expanded after state funding was awarded to Novato, Sausalito and San Rafael and to Marin County for unincorporated areas like Binford Road.
Each city, and Marin County, received $500,000 to address their encampment issues – with the county bringing in $1million in resources to help each of the regions.

I was fired on Friday. Hurricane Wilma hit on Monday. No water for a week, no power for 16 days. When they restored power to my house, it burned down. I was told they sent 220 where 110 should go.
Nothing like trying to find a place to stay when the whole area has been devastated by a hurricane. God was with us. A friend from our church had a friend who managed an apartment complex and when they heard about our situation they held a recently vacated apartment for us. There were a lot of things like that. Weird stuff that told us that while we were going through bad crap, had lost all of our stuff, my job, our home, He was still with us and it was going to be okay.

Relatively few people have an ocean view and direct beach access. They all have both, and it is cheap.

FREE beachfront property, I had a home on the beach in Ventura until 2 years ago, OMG the beach became an absolute ghetto, my home was broken into 3 times my car I can’t count how many times!! Tents EVERYWHERE, trash EVERYWHERE VERY SCAREY people EVERYWHERE!! I had ENOUGH put the house up for sale and moved to the desert where it is to damn hot for people to pitch a tent!! I thought I would NEVER be able to sell my home with the mess the beach had become, much to my absolute surprise there was a bidding war for the home GO FIGURE, I made enough money to pay CASH for my new home AND it is a whole different world here!! It is clean, no trash ANYWHERE, NO homeless tents ANYWHERE I feel like I am living in a different state!! The people who have homes on this beach area have to be furious the cost of homes on the coast there is astronomical, you look out your big beautiful windows and see nothing but FILTH!! City officials DO NOTHING …..SPIT!!!

Those people are all hoarders.
These are not people pushed out of the housing market. These are the homeless alcoholic and mentally ill from all ar the country who are congregating in California because of their welcome.
The news lies. These people have been coming in from all over the country. People who act lost housing were mostly on the dole.
Not such good welfare in other places.
Frequent interviews with the "homeless" often show them as choosing their "poison," literally and figuratively. There are no tent cities in our town, and precious few RVs not used as actual recreation. I think you correct to assert the "welcome" of California. Choosing where to squat often involves some rational choices, such as best access to services and people to panhandle if not rob. And of course pitiless "public servants" to distribute the pittances which are enough for these sad beings.
