Whether they are Communist or not, Russians are still Russians.

Russia ain’t READY for reform. And might never be.

Why Russia cannot become a democracy

Democracy isn't mentioned one time in the US Constitution or Declaration of Independence, but it's mentioned 11 times in Cuba's constitution. We've known since the Greek city states in 400 BC that democracy leads to ruin.

Why Russia cannot become a democracy

I was hoping for a Constitutional Representative Republic, myself.

That can be created in a geographical area of diverse competitive neighboring groups with a common oppressor.

I remember one in particular.

Democracy is used to describe representative government, not democracy in the Greek sense.

It's more of a democracy than we are under Biden.

We're the ones with rigged elections as proven by the last two election cycles. The J6 prisoners are political prisoners. The DOJ and FBI are resorting to banana republic tactics against Donald Trump.

And, it's certainly more democratic than Ukraine, the land of neo-Nazis, where Zelensky has banned all opposition parties and media outlets, imprisoned opposition leaders and is destroying churches.

Same here. Seems like that ship has sailed.

Especially since 2008.

You just described a republican form of government, not a democracy. Democracy comes from the Greek words of "demos" (citizen) and "kratos" (power of rule). Democracy means citizen-rule, something the founders of the United States abhored. Democracy always degenerates to the lowest common denominator. At the Constitutional Convention of 1787, the Roman Republic served as the base model, not the Greek democratic city-states.

Thats the big lie everyone has been fed.

Still plenty of commies there no matter what appears to fall or not.

They are used to totalitarianism in whatever form you want to call it.

They never stopped attemlting to implement the Communist Manifesto goals agaimst America either, and with our socialists here they are succeeding very well.

It’s accurate, especially the points about the effect of the end of Communism on the common people.

Communism was bad, but at least they had make work “jobs” - we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us.

The shock therapy prescribed by the ninnies of the doctrinaire Fwee Traders of Harvard et al plunged early ‘90s Russia into a dog eat dog world they had no idea how to navigate. If it was tried in the US it would cause mass rebellion of an armed populace.

So when Pooty Poot brought a bit of statist control back to the economy they felt more secure.

It was a colossal mistake to try to turn Russia into some kind of Milton Friedman economic libertarian experiment, and it led directly to Putin and what is happening today. They think the US and Europe were just trying to starve them. Considering the efforts of pinheads like Nuland, McCain and Graham, they[re likely not wrong.

A Marshall plan for Russia post 1991 would have been more productive, and the best scenario would have been to bring them to European style Social Democracy before trying to teach risk Capitalism to people who have never understood how to manage such risk.

You've got it all ass-backwards. In 2023 (right now, not 1991), capitalist Russia is teaching socialist Europe (the new USSR) that the the USSR was a failure and there is a better way forward.

What is a democracy? By definition it is a rulling by people a common folk.

Now will you honestly tell me that in the western “democracies” common folk rules? Not at all.

Everywhere including Russia the ELITE rules. But today Russian élite so as Chinese one got in odds with a western elite. That is it. That is a nature of a problem. Just a matter of a power to rule this world.

A Marshall plan for Russia post 1991 would have been more productive, ===

The “MArshal” plan for Russia existed and worked actually. West invested to Russia more 1 TRILLION of dollars. And few trillions into China.

So what? When Chinese or Russian élite got out of economical problems they quickly came to conclusion that their interests are DIFFERENT than of western elite. And secondly Chinese and Russians decided NOT to comply with western rule of this planet but pursue their interests.

That is a nature of western problems with them.

That is a honest point. I absolutely agree with. But just notice that ABROAD western republics try to sell a democracy ruling not republican. And those countries who bought it came into a set of many problems and don’t do well.
