They count “kids” that are hardened gang bangers in this figure. The town I live in is a hunting and fishing community, and in 40 years, not one child,has lost their life due to accidental discharge despite a vast majority of families having had guns present in the home all their lives
Heck, I haven’t read any stories about surrounding neighborhoods and towns having fatalities either.

I use myself as an example with the wannabe gun grabbers in my midst.
I’ve had guns my whole life. Heck, when I was a kid I had a couple of rifles in my room, and my grandfather’s shotgun. Knew where my Dad’s .38 was, because he showed me where he kept it for home protection and he was always working. Took me out shooting with it so I knew how to use it. I was probably ten.
I had a horrendous temper when I was a kid. It literally never occurred to me to use those weapons even at my angriest moments.
Most people who have been around guns all of their lives, and had access to them, have never used them to hurt anyone.
