Gardening Tip. I found the pieces I needed for this set-up at Dollar Tree. Works like a champ on salad greens.

May Nature Walk around my farm:

Hickory Tree bloom...

If I were a Fairy, I would TOTALLY live here...yellow woodland violets, and soft moss for my bed. 🙂

Huge patch of May Apples (umbrella-looking plants) on either side of a path that the cows (and deer!) take up the hill. 'Podophyllum peltatum.'

Lovely mushrooms on a dead tree log with wild Black Cap Raspberry canes.

Apple Blossom Time!

No Morels, yet - still a little chilly and DRY. Hoping for rain this week, as the temps warm up.

My brother picked spinach and kale last night - had put them in the pan to steam when he said “hmmm, maybe I should wash this off first!” Yeah, good idea! I’ve passed on this tip to my family, most of whom have gardens.

It has been very cool the last week, with overnight temps mid 40’s mostly, some lower 40’s ... tomorrow night should be around 42. The ‘cold’ weather crops like kale/spinach are loving it .... the ‘maters, not so much. Once we hit next week, it should start warming up ... temps 50’s, rising to 60’s overnight. Temps should go from low/mid 60’s during the day (we’ve had lots of breeze/wind, too so feeling ‘chilly’) to the 80’s. The tomatoes/peppers are just ‘hanging out’, hopefully getting adjusted to being out of the pots and in the ground - we had 3” of rain a couple of days ago, so there’s plenty of moisture. Fingers crossed when the warmer temps arrive, the plants will take off & start growing.

I did re-seed my Divas the other day .... when I scratched up the ground where I planted seeds earlier, there was nothing there, so the seeds never germinated. The Dragon Eggs came right up. Still waiting for 2 of my dahlias to come to the surface ... the 3 that I see are growing fast and I’m getting nervous about the 2 I don’t see yet ... one of them is the first root I bought and the one dahlia I want the most!

I have the bottom red one only ours is green. We’ve gotten years of use out of it, it was down at the barn for years where we would toss a flake of hay in for the goats. We have collected and dumped weeds, mixed soil, and many other uses. I also like to toss all our small plant starter pots in there and fill up with water. Quick wash. I planted carrots in a pot today and used it to mix up the soil, compost and sand. The inner basket is a good idea just not for us with two people.
