The good news is, at least we’re free from the incredibly boring era of Mercedes’ “Formula Engine” dominance. Mercedes “bought the pot” by showing up for the 2014 season with an engine they’d spent a QUARTER OF A BILLION DOLLARS developing. Granted, that was perfectly within the rules, but it was the draconian “tokens” system of paying for car development that institutionalized their 2014 advantage for another six seasons in WDC and seven in WCC.

How pathetic.

But it’s still spec racing, and the competition still stinks, but at this point they’re obviously never going to fix the sport’s two overarching problems:

1. There’s no human drama because the cars are too composed and the driver is hidden from the nose down by the safety cell and the (absolutely moronic) halo. Formula 1 is now Formula Nerf.

2. Excessive dependence of wing-generated downforce, which is what makes the cars so composed, but also makes driving in trail of another car so treacherous.

What they need to do is put victory back in the hands of tire grip. Smaller single element wings with no compound curves (and made from non-frangible material, like aluminum, so they don’t scatter caltrops all over the track with the slightest collision), and big, wide sticky tires.

The sport was at its most exciting when the fastest way around a corner was sideways. That’s what they need to return to.

This crap’s about as exciting as full-scale slot car racing.

If you don’t mind a little rest of the story.

Was their an instructor along for the ride?

How did your times compare to the record in like machine?

Did your times improve each lap?

Top speed achieved?

Auto or manual transmission?

What color was the 996?

Thanks for sharing.

Looks like those would probably be a decent fishhook.
Especially if it gets down in the throat.

Hey !!! I just had a Brainfart, they could try having the Drivers hold the shade umbrellas in one hand or hooked to a loop on the center latch of the Drivers Harness and the last driver retaining possession of the umbrella is the first one allowed to Pit and the rest in reverse order with the first driver is the last to Pit. And they could all Pit on the same Lap.

That would put some entertainment back in this rodeo...

(Ya I’m sure that Y’All think that I have been drinking but not for several weeks, although that could be the problem.)

I've been up since 6a, drinking Italian Dark Coffee with my Marlboros, and enduring a hellish t-storm. Watching Formation Lap, now...
