I miss Win2000 Pro.
:D
It should work well enough to get at your data and download it to a thumb drive, or use some diagnostic software like Glary Utilities and CCleaner to possibly solve solve your problem..........................
Both Free

Having nothing to lose at this point last night I took the Alienware to the shop and cranked up the compressor and blew it out savagely.
A LOT of weird powdery stuff came out of every vent and I kept going until it stopped.
It’s booted up without the terrifying hardware failure errors now ( cpu and gpu) and I upgraded to 11 just to go for broke.
The app that displays temps was squirrelly at first going back and forth from 110 to 180 but seems to be hovering around 160 or so now which is not bad considering how beefy it is.
Killed off a bunch of unnecessary crap running in the background, pared the start menu down to nearly nothing and am hoping for the best.
Until/unless the adjuster squeezes State Farm for the max I can’t afford a $3000 similar replacement.
Praying they pinch SF until they scream.
Thank you for the links and help.
I’m overwhelmed by all of this and Himselfs dementia or whatever is forcing me to handle everything alone.
I’m not as strong as I need to be, apparently.
You can do it!.....................Heck, you’ve done most of it already!.....................
Probably a temporary fix.
I was told something about soot being acidic or whatever and the dread enemy of electronics.
That’s why the adjuster told to me claim everything, even if it seems to be working now.
A month or six from now all of it might crap out.
Said he’d seen happen a lot.
That laptop was on the bottom floor with a hundred feet, two rooms and a door between it and the fire but it got messed up anyway.
All my electronic stuff was in the living room and was probably affected too.
God have mercy on me, I feel so beaten down.
Everything I loved is gone…or going.
It’s too much.
Soot is carbon particles, which is electrically conductive, just like tiny metal shavings.
Resistors used to be made of carbon, but now are made of more stable materials, like metal oxide or carbon film.
Soot all over the PC board is like throwing a handful of powdered metal onto it. It’s a wonder it didn’t catch fire.
Blowing it out with an air hose probably got most of the stuff out, but a soft bristle brush, like a paint brush, in addition to air blast would have been more effective.
I used to work for Tektronix field service and when we got in oscilloscopes from the field for repair, they were usually filthy.
The first thing I would do is WASH THEM INSIDE AND OUT WITH SOAP AND WATER.
That’s right soap and hot water!
And a brush!
After a thorough rinsing with clear water, blowing out all the excess water with an air hose, I’d put it in a oven overnight at 130°F so it would be thoroughly dry the next morning.
Never had a problem that was caused by dirt or other contaminates......................
Wow.
I had no idea.
They not only cut power to the house, they ripped the meter off the wall so after the battery ran down is probably why it didn’t go up in flames.
Hubby once fixed a printer by giving it a shower.
Said it’d be fine after it dried out but I was totally “Yeah. You plug it in, I’ll just watch from across the room”
;)
