A bizarre tree accident in Girard took down power lines and damaged a truck over the weekend.
Emergency crews were called at about 5 p.m. to the 70 block of Emma Street where a tree crew was doing work at a house.
The foreman of the tree company told police that they were doing a favor for the people who lived at the house by removing a tree but an anomaly happened.
The foremen said that they anchored and felled the tree but it did not fall properly because it was filled with cement.
As it was coming down, the tree caught nearby power lines and took down a utility pole. The pole fell across the dump truck, draping the power lines across the vehicle and street.
No injuries were reported.
Sometimes rotted trees are filled in with cement, however, arborists advise against this practice.
More importantly. Did anyone hear it?
I want to know the brand of chainsaw chain they used that got through the concrete...
I suspect the Mafia is involved.
I wish they had done a favor for me ... My 50’ fir cost $2700 to take down. Not filled with concrete.
Concrete near the bottom of the tree would have been fairly obvious, one would think. I have a tree in my yard that has a hollow spot, but it’s about 30 ft. up.
Anyway, I don’t know how big the hollow part might be. I know it’s hollow because I used to see lots of bees flying in and out, but they seem to have gone away. Had the tree trimmed a few months ago and they didn’t recommend doing anything with it. (fingers crossed)
Who fills a hollow tree with cement?
Cement?
Was it a Rock Maple?
Sounds like a cash job on the sly, the down low, the QT. Then boom .
GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) — A bizarre tree accident in Girard took down power lines and damaged a truck over the weekend.
This is a crap story. My arborist does not have a tree removal business. And he suggested that we fill a rotted out portion of a tree with .... CONCRETE (or cement).
We did not check with FauxChi.
It seems like some tree companies throw out ridiculous prices for tough jobs they don’t really want to do. My neighbor had a similar problem with a tree overhanging her neighbors house. She got quotes for $6,000 and $5,000. The tree wasn’t more then ten inches around but it was hard to get at. She ended up having a smaller company come in and take it down for $2,000. I’m glad the guy helped her because she was only taking the tree down because her neighbor was afraid it would fall on her house.
