It was hilarious. It was ground-breaking. Way back when SNL was actually funny and original and cutting edge without being committed to the conventional wisdom (yes, they took cheap shots at President Ford, but they didn’t hold back on Carter either). Seems so long ago....

Ah, the days when SNL was funny. Hubby and I never missed an episode. It’s now probably been twenty years since I’ve watched the show. The “No Coke, just Pepsi” skit, the Coneheads, The Blues Brothers, “Point/Counterpoint with ignorant slut Jane”, and other regular skits would always make me laugh.

I looked up the lyrics to “Rubber Biscuit” once. It still didn’t make any sense.

Oh, man... the good ole days. It still gives me a belly laugh when they break into that dance.

The Blues Brothers’ horn section included SNL bandmates, Lou Marini and Tom Malone, while Stax session legends guitarist Steve Cropper and bassist Donald “Duck” Dunn had also been the core of Booker T & the MG's. Another guitarist, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, had played with multiple blues greats, while classically trained trumpeter Alan Rubin rounded out the Blues Brothers’ sound. It was a truly great band, no matter what you say about Ackroyd's and Belushi's dubious musical talent.

This particular show was SNL’s zenith. Nothing after came close.

This is a great scene and song. Land is knew how to make a movie.

And I don’t think this scene was even in the movie. It might be extra from the DVD.

My friend thought they were singing “I’m so mad.”

Director John Landis’ 1980 Blues Brothers film was a runaway success of musical excess, Aykroyd’s sprawling script and Belushi’s increasing unreliability ...Sadly Belushi couldn't handle it. Certainly not the first to be done in by fame and success.

Ha! I love when people do that. My brother always thought INXS was singing “Super Salad Bar” instead of “Suicide Blonde.”

My high school girl friend’s mom thought the lyrics to the Journey song “Who’s Crying Now” was “one loves pizza pie” instead of “one love feeds the fire.”
