I lived in Hobbs for a few months in the 80’s. What a dump.

It's grown a bit since then - over 50,000 now. For example, major chain hotels - two Hilton, at least two Marriott, three or four Choice, lots of chain restaurants (three MacDonald's), Lowe's & Home Depot, Walmart of course, two Walgreens, one CVS, a brand new hospital, two colleges, two golf courses, new housing everywhere, etc. One thing not to brag about, 18 pot shops! As must mj revenue as ABQ, Rio Rancho and Santa Fe -reason: Four miles from the Texas state line!

My claim to fame was that I proposed to my wife there. That was near the end of the Big Bust of the early 80’s so it was at the bottom of the cycle. I did dine at the old Country Club a few times. I was working for Halliburton.
