A former commander of Russian forces in Ukraine has likely returned to the war-torn country as "intense tensions" develop among Russia's top military figures, according to a new assessment.
General Colonel Mikhail Teplinsky, who served as the commander of Russia's VDV, the airborne forces branch of the Russian military, was removed from Moscow's operations in Ukraine in January 2023, which Western analysts noted at the time.

General Colonel Teplinsky is an expert on withdrawal, having led the retreat from Kherson. Perhaps Russia is anticipating further need for his services in the coming weeks?

3 Star Generals tend to have influential friends in high places. Firing them can get messy. I also doubt he willingly sacrificed so many of his men as cannon fodder, and probably has the proof safely tucked away.
Teplinsky was brought back to be the designated fall guy for all of the new VDV losses happening in Bakhmut after VDV was sent in to replace Wagner trash troops destroyed by Ukrainian artillery on the flanks.

So he gets to be the fall guy TWICE? My take is that despite what most would consider unacceptable losses, Russia will take Bakhmut, and if Teplisnsky is in charge, his image will be rehabilitated. Shoigu and Gerasimov do not want to give credit to Prigozhin. Obviously I can't see behind the curtain, so who really knows...
