BESSEMER, Ala. — Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall held a press conference Wednesday to address raids at 14 illegal bingo facilities in five cities, including unincorporated Jefferson County.
The Attorney General’s Office worked with ALEA, FBI, and DEA to shut down the facilities that had more than 2,400 illegal slot machines combined.
"If you drive around where these halls are located, you will notice they're raking in tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars a month," Marshall said. "They're not lifting these communities up. Nobody's property value has gone up as a result of the illegal facilities, the economies in these areas have not improved, no neighborhood has flourished as a result of the presence of these so-called casinos."

“Nobody’s property value has gone up as a result of the illegal facilities....”
Translation: The government is not getting their share!
I’ve always wondered why people WANTED the value of their home to go up. An increased value equals an increase in property taxes. I can understand the wish if you are a house-flipper and buying property with the hope and expectation that with improvements the value will increase, but if it your home and you plan to live there for decades or even the remainder of your life, why would you want the value to increase?
The guy didn’t get his Cadillac.
Shoot, nobody’s putting me in the corner ! shut ‘em down boys !
Maybe these bingo halls were owned by Republicans?
I’m glad all the Fentanyl and Meth has been taken care of, now they can focus on the little things. Broken windows theory and all.
Exactly. The government doesn’t like competition.
Priorities!
If the value of everybody’s house goes up the same, there is no increase in taxes. Also sales value is not the same as tax value.
Government isnt concerned about peoples welfare. They are concerned they arent getting their cut.
Drop the state gas tax if you’re so concerned about peoples welfare. And then the state sales tax.
Further, no one twists anyones arms to play these things. Its their own choice.
The state is really pushing the limit on this. Native American gaming comprises casinos, bingo halls, and other gambling operations on Indian reservations or other tribal lands in the United States. Because these areas have tribal sovereignty, states have limited ability to forbid gambling there, as codified by the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988. Alabama has three Indian gaming casinos. Each casino is owned by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians of Alabama, which is the only federally-recognized tribe in the state.
What happens on the res, stays there.

we have criminals swarming our borders but we have time to raid bingo halls....nobody forces them to go play bingo and no one is harmed....
I was just about to post that only Native Americans (Specifically Poarch Creek) can run casinos in Bama. I live close to the one in Wetumpka and it’s parking lot stays full. The couple of times I’ve “donated” money to them, they were packed.
I will say that that particular one helps the community a lot...
No victim, no crime.
One of my favorite bar jukebox songs - really get your money's worth.
IMHO, the old mafia was less dishonest. There were just some things they wouldn’t do..
And, if you dig deep enough, you will find that political donations by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians are the reason the Alabama legislature will not allow the people of Alabama to vote on legalizing casino gambling as well as having a state lottery. The injuns don’t want any competition.
Bingo, the biggest problem in America. 🙄
When I was about 10 I played a BINGO board at an extended family reunion with about 60 old women and some old men. I won. Maybe $6 or $7. They wouldn’t let me play after that.
Won 1,300 on a cruise playing bingo.
That’ll teach those Baptists to gamble
