Was more like 1971. By 77 the author of that paper had recanted and said they were wrong.

This has nothing to do with ‘climate change’ or ‘global warming’.
As an example, out here in Los Angeles many of the all-time record highs for the first half of April were set in the 1880’s or 1890’s.
Weather is not climate. I learned that in middle school.
If ‘global warming’ were affecting the weather, how come this was one of the coolest winters in Los Angeles in decades? And rainiest. We are always being told that the ‘warming’ of the planet will lead to extreme droughts. Well, we had the 8th rainiest winter in L.A. history, and the rainiest March in the last 45 years.
