Torrential rainfall inundated Fort Lauderdale and other parts of South Florida on Wednesday leading to widespread flooding that forced the city's airport to close and stranded motorists for hours.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is expected to be closed until at least noon Thursday because of the flooding. Flights were halted shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday because of the heavy rain and windy conditions. Roadways into and out of the airport became impassable around 5 p.m.

"Please do not attempt to enter or leave the airport at this time," the airport said in a tweet.

A friend of mine killed an X5. I expect it’s a total loss.

We had one monster storm when I was in Va. Thought it would never stop. Roads were closed. It was a record...and this was in 1988.

This is the second time within the last year that Lauderdale was rained into a complete shut down.

The soil there is very porous, the storm drainage is very good, and there are no hills or depressions, so it takes like 4 inches of rain in one hour to cause real flooding.

The only time I ever saw standing flood water one day after a storm in Lauderdale was in the mid-1960s.

We got 12 inches of rain in four hours.

My street, which gently sloped from west (land) to east (ocean) looked like a river!

And up here in the North Central area (Ocala), nary a drop except here and there. Barely enough to wet my grass (which it needs badly!)...

In Georgia, we have been getting a lot of rain lately. It seems like more than the usual spring rains. We had torrential rains last Saturday/Sunday, and it was unseasonably cool, followed by three days of sunshine. The rain returns this afternoon.

But, this happens every few years which results in what is called “average” temperatures and rainfall. Sometimes it is cooler than average with more rain, and sometimes it is warmer than usual with less rain. The media forgets that when reporting that all weather events are due to “climate change”.

And here I am stuck in between, LOL. They keep predicting rain (I shoulda' been a meteorologist. Easy gig!).

I hope we get some soon. I have a well, and I'd hate to be someone who has to pay city water prices!

One of my favorite places on the planet. Even with the summer afternoon gully washers.

I live in Seattle.

We have had like 10 straight weeks of below average temps.

In February, we had below average temps almost every day of the entire month.

There is a giant salt water lake of colder than average Pacific Ocean water just off our coast that extends from Canada all the way to Mexico.

In a normal year, that cold water is hundreds of miles off shore, and much closer to Alaska than to Washington state.

____

I would too. We have three working wells on our property which all produce an abundance of nice clear delicious water. When our area suffers from drought conditions, we carefully watch our water use so as to not put too much stress on our water levels.

The left never skips an opportunity to slam Trump ... my phone had a news alert that read (paraphrasing) “Trump flies to NYC abandoning Florida to torrential rains and storms”.

“Trump flies to NYC abandoning Florida to torrential rains and storms”.

_______

Is there anything Trump can’t do? He called in the rain and then abandoned Florida once it arrived. Simply amazing!

Easy gig!) when you get called in at 3 a.m. after a long shift the previous day, because severe storms re-fired more than expected overnight.

I've seen our local TV mets almost too hoarse to speak and looking / acting ready to drop at the end of extended severe weather outbreaks. Granted that's the exception, and granted this is in a lower population market where staff size is constrained.
