Some may be just partially disabled. Some conditions allow a person to work for say 1/4 day, or 1/2 day but not a whole day as they get too weak tO keep working through the day. Disability also has a benefit that keeps a person on disability while they try to get back to work full time- if they find they can’t after so many months of trying, then they don’t lose their disability.
Also a lot of times disabled folks have things ,ike chronic fatigue where they can go for a bit, but get too weak to continue, and their minds even get affected with the dang “brain fog” which is essentially cognitive Disability that makes them unfit for work that involves a lot of brainwork instead of physical labor.
I don’t know the folks around d your town of course, but there might be something like the above happening. Disability doesn’t mean strapped to a bed 24/7- it jusy means a person is too weak to earn a living with full time work.
I do agree there are a ton of folks gaming the system, and Biden and ilk have accommodated the scammers while making it harder for people who are truly disabled to get onto Disability.
Agree, have a friend with MS that was able to work for a few hours a day. Wasn’t a slacker or trying to take advantage of anything. Simply wanted to continue a lifelong career until being unable to do so.
As best I can tell, they are on The Disability because they hired a lawyer. I only know 1 person who was granted Disability without a lawyer and he got it on the first try. He got hurt at work years ago so they did the paperwork when he got close to retirement.
This is a Low COL area so lots of people are on it because you can afford to live on it but it still almost requires a side-hustle. But you are still being paid to live in poverty and you are most likely to vote for the people who keep you there.
