Am I reading this right?

He was already on parole after serving state prison time on a 2019 felony assault conviction for pistol-whipping the victim and shooting him three times in the back, prosecutors said.

Huh? Does that mean he'd already pistol whipped and shot the same boy, served some prison time, was released, and moved back into the same house with his victim?

The mother allowed him to move back in? The law allowed him to move back in? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Never mind. It was another victim.

Still, why was he ever released from prison? The mother should not have let him return to their home after his release.
