Putin could shut down this project in a minute if he wanted to.
Putin is happy to give the Russians an excuse to protest something other than Putin’s war.
And he might.
Russia has a cultural identity, unlike Western nations that have deliberately separated the state from religious and even their national cultural heritage.
It’s the consequence of globalism.
All true culture stands in the way of globalism since culture is the fine art of discrimination / discernment, based on a value system. Such thinking stands in the way of free movement of goods, services, money, information and people (labor).
If you want to be truly globalist, you’re going to have to harmonize laws, tax policy, standardize in environmental/safety/etc policies, finances... And that is exactly what you’re seeing. Amazon can’t exist in a world of borders with highly differing regulations regards environment, safety, etc., where the labor laws, tax codes regards imports and exports are all different...
But what that also means is that you end up one big common culture, where the unique cultures of each nation sort of dissolves over time, giving way to this new common global culture, or Western culture in our case.
Because you really have three distinct cultures today: (1) US/West (to include all of Western and Central Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Israel and S. Korea), (2) Russia and it’s satellites, (3) China and their satellites. Each of these areas have their own arts and entertainment, news, social media, Internet, and distinct social norms and values.
But today, what really is the difference between the English and Americans? Germans and Americans? Spaniards and Germans? Poles and French? The Poles will accept LGBTQIA, the Spaniards and Greeks will run their finances like the Germans, and they all watch Netflicks, get next day delivery via Amazon and use Google.
If you go to China (PRC) you will notice that the majority of their news, arts, social media and the most used search engine are all different: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baidu
If you go to Russia you will notice that the majority of their news, arts, social media and most used search engine are all different: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yandex_Search
But in the West we have all become one and the same.
