"Go wash your hands" is a phrase used frequently in households throughout the country. However, according to a recent Healthy Handwashing Survey™, only 25% of parents actually believe their children always wash up when they tell them to do so.
The Healthy Handwashing Survey™ from Bradley Corp. found just 25% of parents believe their children always wash their hands when they tell them to. The Healthy Handwashing Survey™ from Bradley Corp. found just 25% of parents believe their children always wash their hands when they tell them to. Fathers are slightly more trusting of their kids' handwashing follow through. 60% of dads believe their kids wash their hands at least 75% of time when they tell them, compared to only 51% of mothers.
Why don't more moms and dads trust their children? The answer is simple: they themselves admit to cheating the system when they were young. Almost 60% of parents say, as kids, they would just run the water when their parents instructed them to wash their hands.

My kids heard, “Go outside and eat dirt.”
And drink from the water hose. 😁
Everyone everywhere seems skeptical of everyone’s hand washing claims. I mean, every restaurant I go to there’s a sign in the mens room - “employees must wash hands”. I’ve had to wait as long as 40 minutes for an employee to come!
Did someone tell them its too germy to be safe?
Of course parents may not remember all the things they tried to get away with when they were kids.
And miss the chance to make a mess!?! Even a small mess like drops of water, surely you jest.
Just in case you wondered, Dr. Steve left the practice because he had issues with the restrictive mandates recently imposed regarding remuneration from the corporate overlords. He left to increase their finances and she stayed for the soccer mom benefit of relaxed hours and minimal stress.
Before he left, I asked if it was due to COVID-19 and he said no, and explained about the restrictive corporate policies. Then I asked if the policy changes were due to COVID-19 and he slowly said, possibly. [I took that to mean yes but he was playing doctor fraternity and wouldn't rat out his own]
My wife just tols me that mothers smell the little hands to see if they smell like soap. It's a dead giveaway.
Kids, make sure to get your toothbrushes wet when mom says to brush your teeth.
As a child, I played outside, dug in the dirt with my bare hands and shared a sandbox with cats/critters.
I have no memory of my parents lambasting me re handwashing. While I’m sure I was told to wash at dinner, it was never an issue.
That stated, in hindsight I was a hypochondriac’s worst nightmare as a child...and I’m convinced the only reason I’m not dead at my age is because I was NOT raised in a bubble/sterile environment.
“And drink from the water hose.”
That’s funny. It’s the second time in 2 days I’ve heard someone say that...with it having been decades since the last time I heard it.
Gotta let the water run for awhile if the hose had been laying out in the sun.
My mom used to check my hands (and fingernails) and if I hadn’t done a good job, she sent me back to the bathroom to do the job right. When I had my own kids to raise, I did the same thing, at least for a few years when they were little. After that I had to choose my battles.
Yep, your wife is right!
My Pastor was over and visiting my house with his family. As we were getting ready for dinner, their mother told them to wash their hands. They did the teen boy get them wet and then dry off. Mom was challenging their washing skills when I offered to make sure that they washed their hands properly. She accepted because she was busy helping with dinner.
I had the boys come over and show me their hands. I then made a motion of spitting into their hands. “EEEWWWWW” “Gross”, mom had a look of horror and then they went straight to the bathroom to wash them again.
Dad (the pastor) was rolling on the floor laughing but their hands were clean.
