We set the precedent with our attack on Iraq.

I must have missed the part where we annexed Iraqi territory and looted its oil. We already had an on-going UN authorized military mission over Iraq and only a cease-fire, the terms of which were already being violated by Iraq, not a peace treaty.

“As far as Russia, they have their hands full with their current invasion, they are in no position to draw the anger of the big boys, their focus is on trying not to drown in the mess they are already in and hope to come out of it with something left of their military and government”

Assume that is true. Assume it is even worse in Ukraine for the Russians than you portray. If total capitulation is not an option and you were were calling the Russian moves, what would you do?

This is much more possible than most people think IMO.

Reports this morning are that Wagner has raised the Russian Flag over the center of Bakhmut and proclaiming victory.

If the Ukrainian side starts to fall apart and Russia advances, how long that takes is impossible to know, the USA will start talking about a negotiated settlement and propose “peace keeping” forces inside Ukraine to provide safe passage to Ukrainian people which will likely be troops retreating, regroup, get stronger and come back to fight again.

At that point as you suggest US Troops will become legit targets and then all hell could break loose. It will be sold to the American people, as the USA trying to achieve peace and then getting attacked by Russians.

“...As far as Russia, they have their hands full with their current invasion, they are in no position to draw the anger of the big boys...”

That is an understatement. The Russians had their hammer and sickle flags hauled down in Kherson and the bullies just cannot handle Ukraine. They got away with biting off portions of the Republic of Georgia but when they invaded Ukraine, they really stepped in it. They should have known because they had lots of trouble handling Chechnya. Ukraine is 30 times larger than Chechnya.

More bluster from the Kremlin. The real point is to control Belarus, so it looks to me like Lukashenko has lost his balancing act and Belarus will be incorporated into das Grosse Reich, err, I mean Russia.

The next few months will determine the borders of Ukraine. My guess is the Ukrainian offensive will push the Russians out of southern Kherson and push them back in Donetsk/Luhansk to roughly the Russian starting positions of Feb 2022. Then the haggling will begin.

Are you still sending your hard earned $$$ to organizations that claim to be helping the UA with equipment purchases?

They have been involved in a one way shooting war with NATO for nearly a year now.

No they haven't, any more than the US was in a shooting war with the Russians when they armed the Taliban and the Vietcong.

I would wager that’s been true your entire life as it has been mine but you just failed to notice.

***********

You failed to notice the simple fact that when tensions increase there’s a greater probability of conflict. A third grader knows that.

I suggest you review the Russian “bluster” emanating from Moscow 1/1/22-2/24/22. I’ve seen this movie before.

I never sent to organizations. I send directly to friends in uniform. They are men of courage. That is something you would never understand you being a coward Putin puke.

Didn’t American taxpayers give them enough? And how on earth are they still alive, with the UA losing on all fronts?

Good point. The economic aspects are often overlooked, but will weigh heavily as countries look toward the future and the new alliances that are being formed. Shifting sands.

You won’t see it reported in the West because this is Russian state media. Pure propaganda.

That was matched by movement on the ground. Any attack on Poland would have very negative and immediate consequences for Russia such as destruction of assets in Kaliningrad, Belarus, destruction of the Black Sea fleet and an air campaign against the RA in Ukraine.

You might want check the armaments, targeting and intelligence capabilities deployed and the tens of thousands of Russians killed by these US actions. How many hundreds of billions did the Russians invest against the US in Afghanistan? How many tens of thousands of American troops were killed in Afghanistan by Russian resources. You might want to acquaint yourself with a globe. The perhaps hundreds of American casualties attributable to Russian meddling in Afghanistan were 8000 miles from the U.S., the tens of thousands of Russian deaths caused by U.S. weapons are a days tank ride from Moscow. Also, when did Putin come to Cuba to preach DC regime change over Afghanistan? I do wish I could bury my head in the sand the way you do and not watch this escalate into WWIII. Ignorance is indeed bliss.

The whole game here is to provoke Putin or Xi or Iran or whoever out there to strike back at the US-NATO to do something anything that looks like or actually is a Pearl Harbor.

FDR played this game with Japan through sanctions in 1941 got Japan to attack and through Japan’s alliance with Germany got what he needed to get war with Germany.

You don’t get it. Once it starts, it won’t be a kinder, gentler WWII Eastern Front conventional meatgrinder type WWIII. Contrary to the year old propaganda narrative, WWIII with the Russians or Chinese can’t be won by either side. Once it begins everyone you and I have ever known will be dead in six months.

I'm sorry for your losses tovarishch. I still don't see how starting a shooting war with NATO (which covers a population of nearly a billion and a sizeable majority of the planet's military spending) helps Russia with its predicament.

If Russia attacks Poland, it will (1) lose and (2) run a serious risk of starting global thermonuclear war, which would be worse for Russia (and everyone!) than just losing a few tanks to American-made javelins.

Always wanting to punch above their weight

What an absurd nonsensical comment.

There’s nothing inevitable even if the shooting starts. There are choices to be made at each step. For example, any major Russian escalation would probably be met by China yanking Russia’s chain. No one is going to go MAD precisely because it’s MAD, and the Soviet Union used to make a lot of the same noises, for example, when the US moved cruise missiles and Pershings into Europe in the 80s.
